Georg Baselitz (* 1938 in Deutschbaselitz/Saxony), german painter and sculptor, studied from 1957 to 1963 at the Academy of Fine and Applied Art in East- and later in West-Berlin. His paintings "Die große Nacht im Eimer (The Big Night Down the Drain)" and "Der nackte Mann (The naked Man)" were seized during one of his first exibitions in the gallery Werner & Katz in Berlin. In 1969 he worked at his first painting showing a motive upside down. In 1979 Baselitz started working on sculptures. In 1998 two large format paintings were completed for the Reichstag in Berlin. In 2005 Baselitz started the "Remix series". Baselitz is a honorary professor at the Royal Academy of Arts London and at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence. He taught at the University of the Arts in Berlin from 1983 to 1988 and from 1992 to 2003.
